When Classic Ice Inc. was purchased in 2004, the company was only five years old, yet it proved to be a solid investment with market growth potential. At that time, Classic Ice specialized in solid block ice manufacturing and distribution Valley wide. Delivering a quality product with exceptional service enabled us to quickly grow. In fact after only two years, the company expanded again through the purchase of a local ice cube company. As one of the only locally-owned and managed ice companies in metro-Phoenix, we’ve benefited from quick and strategic management decisions to continue our expansion over the past several years.

With the opening of our state-of-the-art facility in May 2011, we became the largest privately-held ice manufacturer and distributor in Phoenix. We expanded our facility again in December 2013, doubling our daily capacity to more than 100 tons. We take pride in our water purifying process. We purify our water through reverse osmosis enabling us to achieve bottled-water quality in every bag of ice, and have an independent laboratory monitor the quality of our ice. These processes means added safety and assurance to our clients because Ice King is the only ice manufacturer in the Valley who could implement a product recall if necessary.

Additionally, Ice King is currently inspected by the Maricopa County Environmental Health Services Department; however, we have reason to believe our industry will require USDA inspection in the near future. With that in mind, we’ve built our facility in accordance to these potential standards. We are a registered Ice Manufacturing facility with the FDA, and our facility has a no-touch process where employees never physically come in contact with the ice. The entire process is automated and heat sealed—all by machine.

Our customers don’t have to worry about us running out of ice in the heat of the summer as we have a 6,000 square foot freezer to keep enough product on hand to meet any client demand. Our plant sits on one and half acres and occupies a 20,000 square foot facility, of which 18,000 is refrigerated.

Summer dock hours are from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 5 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday and Sunday. Winter dock hours are from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, closed on Sunday. Appointments welcome. We deliver 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Ice never sleeps.

Ice King delivers to retail locations, wholesalers, government entities, food manufacturers, convenience stores, golf courses, restaurants, events, construction sites, airports. In a nutshell — if you need ice, we want you to be our client.

Being locally owned, Ice King firmly believes in giving back to the community. Every year, Ice King budgets ice for donation back to local non-profits, charities, churches, community centers, children’s sporting programs, etc. If our budget is committed for the year, we will give you our best possible price. Ask for non-profit pricing when calling, and please be prepared to submit all necessary current documents that show proof of your organization’s tax exemption status.

Ice King is the only locally-owned and operated manufacturer and distributor of premium ice products in Phoenix and its outlying communities.

The People Behind the Story

Ryan Maasen


Born and raised in Johnston, Iowa, where he grew up working for the family business. Ryan graduated from Arizona State University. During college, he worked in guest relations at The Phoenician Resort and learned the importance of providing exceptional customer service. In 2004 Ryan purchased Classic Ice Inc. and then Arizona Ice in 2006. In 2007 he changed the name of the company to Ice King. However, the registered business name remains Classic Ice, LLC dba Ice King. Ryan delivered the ice himself until 2008. Even though he misses seeing his loyal customers on a daily basis, he’s involved in all aspects of the business. In fact, customers can call him on his cell phone, which he readily makes available. John “Buck” Hayes

Vice President of Sales

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Buck is a third generation Iceman. Buck started working for his father in 1978 at Atlantic Ice Company of Texas, shortly after the plant was sold to a larger competitor. With just 3 years in the ice business, Buck was hooked on the industry, especially the day to day interaction with customers. Buck then went to work in the ice machine side of business, but his passion was with the packaged ice side of the industry. Buck worked for the largest ice company in the United States for 15 years, before joining Ice King in early 2012. Buck enjoys connecting with the old relationships, and forming new relationships with all clients and potential clients of Ice King.
